Katahdin Pro Audio: Where Sound Comes Alive
Hi there, I’m Kent Whitten, owner of Katahdin Pro Audio, nestled right here in East Waterboro, Maine. We’re not just another audio shop – we’re your partners in crafting sound that moves people. Inspired by Bill Fitzmaurice’s game-changing folded horn designs, we build systems that deliver spine-tingling clarity and bass you can feel. No smoke and mirrors – just meticulously engineered gear that works as hard as you do.
Why Folded Horns? (They’re Secretly Brilliant)
Let’s get technical (but not too technical). Thanks to Bill Fitzmaurice’s genius, our folded horn systems aren’t just loud – they’re intelligently loud. Here’s the magic:
- Impeccably clear highs and mids that cut through chaos without shredding eardrums.
- Bass that resonates soulfully, whether you’re rattling a dancefloor or a living room.
- Flawless coverage so even Aunt Carol in the back row hears every lyric.
Our Gear: Designed by Geeks, Built for Warriors
We’ve spent years refining four core lines to make your life easier:
-
DR Series (The Roadie’s Best Friend): Tired of hauling half your garage to gigs? These folded horns deliver staggeringly efficient sound with 8-10 dB more sensitivity per watt. Translation: fewer cabinets, smaller amps, and mixes that stay crisply coherent.
-
Omni Series (Budget-Friendly Brilliance): Fully horn-loaded, unapologetically simple. These outperform big-box speakers at twice the price, serving up astonishingly detailed audio for bars, churches, or your cousin’s barn wedding.
-
Tuba Subs (The Bass Whisperer): DJs and home theater buffs – meet your secret weapon. These subs don’t just play low notes – they swallow them whole and spit out waves you feel in your molars.
-
Titan Subs (The Building Shakers): When you need to rattle rafters (or eardrums), these subs deliver brutally powerful lows. Perfect for metal bands, festival stages, or anyone who thinks “too much bass” isn’t a real thing.
We’re Your Sound Sherpas (No Ego, Just Solutions)
Here’s the deal: Sound problems suck. Maybe your venue’s acoustics are cursed, or wind keeps stealing your highs at outdoor gigs. That’s where we shine. At our East Waterboro workshop, we’ll huddle with you, sketch solutions on napkins, and build systems that fit your space, your budget, and your “oh God, the show’s in three days” panic.
Built Like Maine Winters: Tough and Uncompromising
We’re not messing around when it comes to durability. Our gear is built to withstand the harshest conditions, just like a Maine winter. We use premium Baltic birch plywood for our cabinets – no cheap particleboard or MDF here. Baltic birch is incredibly strong and resilient, able to handle the bumps, bruises, and general abuse that comes with life on the road (or even just a rowdy weekend party).
These cabinets are built to survive:
- Mosh Pits: They can take a beating and keep on rocking. We know things get wild, and our gear is designed to handle it.
- Monsoon-Season Festivals: Rain, mud, you name it. Our cabinets are built to withstand the elements so your show doesn’t get washed out.
- The “Occasional Spill”: Let’s be real, accidents happen. Our cabinets can handle the occasional spilled beverage (though we don’t recommend making a habit of it!).
And because we build things right the first time, breakdowns are rare. But if something does go wrong, we’ve got your back. You won’t get the runaround from some faceless corporation. You’ll deal directly with us – the people who designed and built your gear. We’ll get you back up and running quickly, because a broken speaker is a showstopper, and we understand that. We’re Mainers, and we believe in doing things right, the first time, every time.
Come See Us (Yes, We’re Actually Friendly)
Swing by our East Waterboro shop to test gear, chew the fat about horn physics, or just complain about flaky sound guys. No pressure, no jargon – just Mainers helping Mainers make better noise.
